Jennifer Ann
Life is unpredictable, and hard times come like they always do. It can be easy to take our busy everyday lives for granted, until we have personally experienced trials and tribulations. Jennie is the girl that strives to live by a set of goals and ideals. In 2008, Jennie had reason to celebrate. She was a semester away from graduating with her surgical tech degree, was the proud mother of two daughters (Kyra and Madison) and had recently married. Soon after marrying her husband Charlie, they learned of one more precious gift on the way, another baby. This was supposed to be the time of her life. However during an early prenatal visit, she was informed that she had stage three HER/2 breast cancer. This news thrust her life out of the familiar and into the unknown. The doctors began treatment with a mastectomy and intense chemotherapy only days after delivering this news to her.
HER2 positive breast cancers tend to be more aggressive than other types of breast cancer. They're also less responsive to hormone treatment. Only five percent of cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in women in their 20’s and 30’s, 25% of these cases are HER2 positive. Only 1 in 3000 pregnancies a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer.
On July 2nd Jennie and Charlie Small became the proud parents of Isabella. This allowed for the doctors to begin a more intense form of chemotherapy which will continue on until July of next year, to be followed with radiation treatments. Despite all this Jennie has continued on with her studies and is looking forward to completing her degree after her treatments are complete.
Jennie has continued to move thru life with grace during these difficult times. Continually she shows us what it means to be a wonderful mother and a true survivor of not only physical ailments but times of a harsh economy as well. Jennie is a survivor; she proves that to all those around her and herself each and every day. She continues to have a long road ahead of her, with over a year more of treatment to go. Through these times we are all shown her strength and her pride. These attributes were made all the more clear when her husband was recently laid off from work. Despite all the trials and tribulations that the Small family stands against, they have continued to give from their hearts to all around them. Jennie is an example and an inspiration of all the courage and strength her experience represents.
As the Small family has been there for us, we would like to be there for them. Please join us on November 13th as we gather to show Jennie and her family love, support and appreciation of all that they do for us
